Rationale

Amazon Quick, which had the name Amazon QuickSight before, is the tool of Fluid Attacks for dashboards and reports through its business intelligence component, Quick Sight.

These are the primary reasons why Fluid Attacks selected it and not other alternatives:

• It queries and makes graphs fast.
• It is easy to use, with a usual drag-and-drop structure.
• Its pricing model is based on use.
• It gives email reports with an in-line display and a file attachment.
• It shows large tables fully, without truncation.
• It includes advanced visualizations, for example, box plots and funnels.
• Its filters are flexible.
• It gives row-level security.
• It is a good fit for dbt.

Alternatives

Fluid Attacks examined these alternatives, but it did not select them for these reasons:

Grow

• It copies the data to its own database. Thus, the data is redundant, and the process is slow.
• Its database cannot keep large quantities of data.
• It truncates tables.
• It is redundant with dbt.

Looker

• With dbt, LookML is not necessary.
• It truncates large tables.
• The customer must sign an annual commitment.

Preset

• It is not good for data that is not a time series.
• The customer must sign an annual commitment.

Power BI

• It is not web-based.
• It is not compatible with macOS.

Trevor

• Because it is flexible, it is redundant with dbt.
• It has problems with tables of about a million rows.

Mode

• It is not for dashboards, but for reports.
• It makes reuse hard.
• Its other capabilities, for example, Python notebooks, are not applicable to Fluid Attacks.

Usage

Fluid Attacks uses Amazon Quick to make useful dashboards for internal use (for example, engineering metrics).
